DALY PLEDGES SUPPORT TO DAA WORKERS
WELCOMES NOTICE OF INDUSTRIAL ACTION TO DEFEND PENSIONS
Local Dail Deputy for the United Left Alliance Clare Daly TD has today strongly welcomed the serving of notice by SIPTU workers in the Dublin Airport Authority to embark on a course of industrial action to defend their pensions.
Deputy Daly said “I am really heartened by the determined decision of my DAA colleagues to take this action in the form of a series of two hour work stoppages starting on Monday October 1 st. My colleagues had no alternative but to embark on this route following the companies reneging on their obligations under the relevant collective agreement. There is no doubt that workers and their families throughout the DAA and Aer Lingus are really worried about their future and the lack of security in relation to a crisis ridden pension scheme which they have contributed heavily to over the decades. This issue affects families, existing retired staff, deferred pensioners and those of who are currently still contributing to this crisis ridden scheme. Action and intervention is necessary and I salute the efforts of my colleagues to put it up to the company in that regard. I will be using the Dail platform once it reconvenes to articulate that support and to do everything I can to up the pressure on the government who are the owner of the DAA and 25% owner in Aer Lingus to resolve this long outstanding issue the workers and their families deserve it.”
